The FN IWS was purpose-built and developed under government contract to meet the requirements of today’s warfighter: a more lethal and lighter individual weapon system. The system consists of four complementary components:
- FN’s Improved Performance Carbine (IPC)
- .264 LICC (Lightweight Intermediate Caliber Cartridge), or 6.5x43mm, ammunition that improves reliability, accuracy and reduces weight
- 25-round high-strength purpose-built polymer magazine
- Quick detach signature suppressor that uses FN’s combination flash hider/muzzle brake design for optimized performance
The FN IPC (Improved Performance Carbine) features a new architecture that’s easier to operate, more accurate and more effective than any carbine before it. The IPC delivers a fully ambidextrous platform with unique takedown method, a highly adjustable buttstock and three different barrel lengths—12.5″ for close quarters, 14.5″ for standard carbine setup and 18.1″ for designated marksmanship.
